Before an erection can happen a complex series of events must take place. These events include the release of several chemical messengers from the nervous system; one of these chemicals is called Cyclic GMP. This chemical works to relax muscle tissue, within the blood vessels of the penis allowing them to widen. This causes blood to enter into the penis, filling the spongy cylindrical tubes located in the penis known as the corpora spongiosum and corpora cavernosa, which in turn results in an erection. Once a patient has finished sexual intercourse and sexual stimulation has ceased, the enzyme phosphodiesterase (PDE5) is released which starts to break down the chemical Cyclic GMP, resulting in the loss of an erection. Cialis is effective in inhibiting this enzyme which allows for the blood vessels within the penis to be dilated for a period of time, which helps to maintain and prolong an erection.
How effective is Cialis?
Clinical trials revealed that out of 700 participants more than 88% of men experienced improvement with their erections.
A further 348 patients underwent an independent trial for Cialis in both the US and the UK. The results of the trial were just as significant: after 36 hours, 59.2% of attempts to engage in intercourse using Cialis were successful versus 28.3% of those given a placebo. The proportion of successful intercourse attempts at approximately 24 hours after treatment was also significantly greater with Cialis (52.9%) than with placebo (29.1%).
Conclusions - Cialis 20 mg is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for ED that has a period of responsiveness of up to 36 hours.

What's the difference between Viagra and Cialis?
Cialis comes in smaller doses and produces fewer side effects. Cialis also works much faster than Viagra. What is the correct dosage and how long does it last?
