Acomplia (Rimonabant), also known as Zimulti, was a treatment used to aid weight loss and treat obesity. It was a new class of medication which worked on both the central nervous system and endocannabinoid system, which regulates body weight and metabolism allowing patients to both loose weight whilst maintaining a high metabolic rate. It was manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis.
Acomplia is no longer available in the UK, but other medication such as Xenical is available. To find out more, you can complete an online consultation. This process is very easy and should take no longer than a few minutes to complete. To begin your free no obligation consultation click here.
How did it work?
Acomplia worked on the endocannabinoid system, which is the used system to govern energy balance, glucose and lipid metabolism as well as body weight. Rimonabant, the active ingredient of Acomplia, worked to block receptors called cannabinoid-1 receptors (CB1) which are found within this system in the brain, digestive system, liver, muscles and fat tissue. Within the brain, these CB1 receptors are make up part of a system know as the mesolimbic system which regulates our intake of highly palatable, fatty or sweet foods. With these receptors blocked and further over-action prevented, patients experienced the benefits of appetite suppression and an increase in metabolism and energy which would usually be reduced when using a weight loss programme alone. Acomplia was also been proven to be beneficial amongst patients with other high risk factors such as high cholesterol and diabetes by increasing the levels of HDL-cholesterol, commonly known as ‘good fats’ whilst reducing blood levels of bad fats as well as sugar levels.
How did it differ from other weight loss treatments?
Acomplia differs from the other obesity treatments that were available in the UK, and the only medication still available for this purpose Xenical, as it was the only one of these treatments to directly target the endocannabinoid system. This meant that Acomplia worked well to suppress appetite but it was also efficient at maintaining a patients metabolic rate which would usually fall as a result of dieting.
How do I buy Acomplia?
Acomplia can no longer be prescribed by a HealthExpress doctor due to the medication being withdrawn in the UK. You can still complete an online consultation form, which will then be reviewed by a HealthExpress doctor, if you require a treatment for weight loss. You may be suitable for a course of treatment using Xenical.
Please be advised that due to the recent announcement by the MHRA we are unable to offer Acomplia for sale to any patient.
