Intrinsa is the first approved drug to address a woman's sexual needs. The Intrinsa patch is a transdermal patch which constantly releases small amounts of testosterone that is absorbed through your skin into the bloodstream. Intrinsa treats women who have had their ovaries and wombs removed (hysterectomy), suffer from Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) and are taking an estrogen. The testosterone in Intrinsa is the same hormone as that produced naturally in men and women. Intrinsa will help women rediscover their sexual desires and closeness with their partners.
Recent trials involving over 500 women who had hysterectomies (had their womb removed) found the Intrinsa patch led to a 74% increase in satisfying sex with their partners.
Ordering Intrinsa from HealthExpress.co.uk is both safe and secure. Simply complete a free online consultation, which will be diagnosed by a GMC approved UK doctor. Your diagnosis is usually completed within a few hours and if your order is processed before 3.00pm you will receive your medication the next day.
How does Intrinsa work?
After removal of the ovaries, a woman's testosterone is reduced to half of the levels compared to before the operation. This decrease in testosterone has been associated with low sexual desire, reduced sexual thoughts and reduced sexual arousal. Any of these problems can cause personal distress, insecurity or relationship difficulties.
Intrinsa works by releasing testosterone (a natural sex hormone) through the skin into the bloodstream to regain the same levels of testosterone before surgery, helping to regain women's sexual desires and closeness with their partners. Low testosterone levels in women have been associated with a lower sexual desire, reduced sexual thoughts and arousal.
Who should take Intrinsa?
Intrinsa is used to treat women who have had both their ovaries and uterus (womb) removed and suffers from a lack of sexual thoughts and sexual desire that causes them distress. Intrinsa can only be given to women who are already taking an estrogen (a female sex hormone).
Recent research has shown that over 40% of women suffer from sexual problems, but less than 20% of them approach their physician or doctor for help.
Part of the problem is that Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) is an ill-defined condition with a varied range of physical and psychological symptoms. With no widely accepted guidelines for diagnosing the condition, women seeking help for FSD can find themselves left with a diagnosis ranging from depression to dyspareunia, or even no diagnosis at all.
You are eligible to take Intrinsa if you:
- Have a low sexual desire which is causing distress or concern and
- Have had both of your ovaries removed and
- Have had your womb removed (hysterectomy) and
- Are receiving estrogen therapy
Intrinsa may take longer than one month for you to notice an improvement in your sexual desires and arousal. If no positive effects are experienced within 3-6 months of taking Intrinsa, you should inform your doctor, who may suggest discontinuing treatment.
The first step to purchasing Intrinsa is undertaking a free online consultation. Your consultation will be diagnosed by a GMC approved UK doctor.
What are the doses of Intrinsa?
Intrinsa patches are available in packs of 2, 8 and 24.
How is Intrinsa used?
Intrinsa is used as a continuous treatment, with a new patch being applied every 3 to 4 days and replaced with a new one in a different place. The Intrinsa patch is applied to dry and clean skin on the lower abdomen (on the tummy, below the waist). The same place must not be used again until at least 7 days later.
