British men believe bald is better than grey

06/08/2010 0 Comments |
A recent survey has revealed that British men would rather go bald than have grey hair.

The survey was conducted by consumer analysts Mintel. They quizzed 2,000 men about topics concerning their physical appearance. Over half of the men questioned admitted that they were terrified of going grey, and ranked grey hair as their biggest worry compared to the other issues in the survey.

Even more surprisingly, perhaps, being overweight is as low as 4th on the list of worries. 3rd place is actually occupied by unwanted hair in the nose and ears, 38% of all men admitted themselves worried about the issue. The 5th most important issue for the men surveyed was yellowing teeth, which ranked at 30%.

Worry

45% of the men who took the survey ranked thinning as the second most worrying issue. The percentage of men worried about hair loss grew to around 75% in the men that were aged between 45 and 54. In fact this age group was found to be the group that worried most about their physical appearance. 26 % of the men who were aged between 45 and 54 said that there were 4 issues that worried them, compared to the overall average of 1 in 10.

Unhappy

Many people will be surprised that going grey was revealed as the bigger worry for men, in comparison to hair loss. Mintel's head of beauty research, Vivienne Rudd reacted to the results. Mrs Rudd said “although grey hair is traditionally seen as a mark of distinction in men, the reality is many men are unhappy with their newfound gravitas”.
