Daily dosage of Cialis gets FDA nod

Apr 11,2008 | Impotence

There is good news for men suffering form erectile dysfunction who would like to add spontaneity back into their sex lives. A new drug from the manufacturers, Eli Lilly and Co has been approved by the FDA. One-a-day Cialis is taken every day and is said to assist men in achieving and maintaining an erection at anytime between doses.

What is What is Cialis and how does it work?

Cialis falls under the same group of medications called PDE 5 inhibitors and is a useful medication that treats men with erectile dysfunction. These medications work by blocking PDE5 that usually responsible for a loss of erection.

It is a prescription medication that can be bought after obtaining a prescription from the doctor. Cialis has been available in the US since 2003 in strengths of 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg and is available in most counties in Europe.

One-a-day Cialis

According to the Indianapolis based company (Eli Lilly and Co), daily intake of low doses of Cialis in strengths of 2.5milligrams and 5milligrams could help men suffering from erectile dysfunction to have sex any time without having to plan in advance, like in the case original Cialis, where a the medication has to be taken 30 minutes before you require the desired effect.

In a press release, Eli Lilly said, “In clinical trials, when taken without restrictions on the timing of sexual activity, One-a-day Cialis improved erectile function over the course of therapy.” One-a-day Cialis has already been approved in some parts of Europe.

According to spokeswoman of Eli Lilly, Keri McGrath, no dosage forms of the Cialis, including the newly approved lower dosages, are right for men who either have heart troubles or take nitrates, including nitroglycerin. Taking Cialis in conjunction with nitrates can result in lowering blood pressure levels causing serious implications on the user.

Eli Lilly believes that low dose of Cialis is like, “a new option for men who may be looking for a dosing option that can be taken without regard to timing of sexual activity.” The press release also said, “(One-a-day Cialis) May be most appropriate for men with erectile dysfunction who anticipate more frequent sexual activity (e.g. twice weekly).”
