It has been suggested that the advent of Viagra has not only improved sex lives, but also the quality of many elderly men’s general health. The pill that helps men overcome the issue of erectile dysfunction made headlines worldwide when it was approved in 1998. Since then, erectile dysfunction has become much more widely discussed and more information about what could cause the problem has surfaced. This, it seems, has encouraged many men to reassess their lifestyles due to the fact more people are now aware that drinking heavily and smoking are direct causes of erectile dysfunction.

The Office for national statistics 42nd annual report has suggested that by the year 2031 the population of men over the age of sixty five in the UK will have doubled which is a larger proportional increase than that of women over the age of sixty five. Not only are men aware of the affects that weight and alcohol have on erectile function, many are making strides to lose weight in order to reduce the chances of encountering sexual health problems. Indeed, many experts many experts have the idea of ‘natural Viagra’, consists of eating well, getting exercise, and avoiding cigarettes for the last few years.

Ex Big Brother housemate Chantelle Houghton recently encouraged men to become vegetarians in order to combat impotence as the consumption of red meat can clog up arteries which can be a factor in erectile dysfunction. While becoming a vegetarian will not suit all of us, the idea of staying as healthy as possible is something that we can all agree on. For better sexual health and a longer life, surely it’s worth it!
