Television personality Gail Porter, who lost her hair due to alopecia, has recreated her notorious naked photo shoot in which she displays her new full head of hair.
The 39 year old lost her hair around 5 years ago as a result of alopecia. In 1999 she made headlines after having her photo projected on to the Houses of Parliament, after she modelled for FHM. The image of her naked derriere being beamed 60ft high has become iconic in the UK.
Miss Porter has successfully overcome her hair condition and has decided to recreate her famous shot 11 years later. “I finally feel really happy in my skin, so I thought: 'Why not?’” she said. “I've got a lovely boyfriend who likes me whatever I look like and my daughter Honey is at an age where she just thinks it's funny that Mummy's getting her bum out”.
In an interview with The Guardian, the GMTV star revealed that when she visited the doctor about her condition, her doctor told her that he ‘was 99% certain’ that her hair wouldn’t grow back.
Miss Porter’s condition has done much to raise awareness about hair loss in the UK. Hair loss affects a large portion of people, men and women. Many people suffer from alopecia, and similarly 1 in 2 men suffer from hereditary condition male pattern baldness.
Newfound confidence
There are a number of ways for sufferers to overcome hair loss, with a number of baldness treatments available for people.
Miss Porter stated that her regrowth has given her a new found confidence. "It makes me feel better about myself," she revealed.
Anybody who is worried about hair loss is advised to consult with a medical professional to discuss any issues concerning baldness.
