Regulatory bodies have been passing stiffer sentences for counterfeit drug operations of late, and the latest Medicines and Health Regulatory products Agency raids are posing little exception.
A number of organised busts have come down hard on thousands of pounds worth of dud erectile dysfunction drugs and antidepressants. The large scale swoops took place in and around London and Yorkshire in eight separate locations.
Anabolic steroids were also seized along with casements of painkillers.
The complex ring of hardened smugglers had made near exact replica copies of the packaging, commonly belonging to leading impotence treatments; Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
Rigid rulings
The MHRA have officially announced the arrest of six individuals in relation to the drugs ring and this could potentially enable police to gather information concerning sophisticated gangs that operate in China and India.
Computers have also been seized in the hope that customer details can still be obtained in time to offer them advice and warnings regarding counterfeit medicines.
False conceptions
An all too common misconception held by a large proportion of erectile dysfunction sufferers is that the consumption of ‘generic’, counterfeit erectile drugs is harmless. People often opt for cheaper options, particularly with the current, volatile economic climate. They are more than often unaware of the dangers but there have been a number of recorded cases whereby people have suffered fatalities as a direct result of using fake impotence treatments.
Worrying findings
As the first ever, legal online pharmacy, Health Express only sources legitimate, proven and tested erectile treatments. However, in a bid to identify just how many sufferers would be willing to try untested medications, we asked our customers whether they would be tempted to do just that.
A surprising number claimed they would be willing to try a generic pill for erections, despite being unwilling to try copies of antidepressants.
These are clearly worrying findings and testament to the fact that we should be given better education concerning the very real dangers of counterfeit impotence drugs.
