Qnexa set for release in the UK

A brand new obesity treatment is set for release in the UK. It is currently at stage 3 of the FDA approval process. If it is sanctioned, it will potentially be available in just over 12 month’s time. The cutting edge alternative to invasive treatment; Qnexa, has been proven during clinical trials - to work quicker, and more effectively than risky, medical procedures.

The treatment comes in pill form. It has proven to help obese patients lose a substantial ammount of weight in a short period of time. Experts claim that a high dosage can help us lose up to 15% whilst a lower dose can still potentially enable us to shift up to 8%. In all, 3,750 obese people were tested. The average degree of weight loss was 14.75% over a period of 56 weeks. The director of obesity clinical trials at Duke University in North Carolina said: "The weight loss observed with Qnexa in these trials far exceeds the weight loss observed for other obesity drugs".

Qnexa has been dubbed a ‘smart’ drug due to its comprisal of 2 effective medicines; phentermine (used for half a century for the treatment of weight conditions) and Topiramate, an established medication, commonly used for the treatment of epilepsy. The latter has also been shown to help with weight reduction.

Both components are slowly released into the body simultaneously, to eliminate the desire to snack throughout the day, and to reduce calorie intakes. Dr Louis Aronne of New York Presbyterian Hospital described the results of the drug as 'spectacular’. He also highlighted our desperate need for alternatives to expensive and risky surgery, or effective drugs.
