Shisha also is harmful for you

It’s official now that smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths and diseases among people worldwide. Many people including men and women smoke cigarettes, which contain nicotine as the main ingredient.

A new study has found out that shisha smoking is more harmful than cigarette smoking for health. Shisha is type of oriental tobacco pipe that is connected to a container where smoke is cooled by passing through water.

This study is reported by the French anti-tobacco agency and according to it, the amount of carbon monoxide that is emitted due to shisha smoking almost equals to that of 15-52 cigarettes. The amount of tar that it emits equals that of 27-102 cigarettes.

The president of the Anti-tobacco agency, Bertrand Dautzenberg says, “The report confirms that smoking shisha is a major source of air pollution in closed and covered areas. If comparing the data to regular cigarette smoke, one shisha corresponds to an average of around 70 drags on a cigarette.”

Researchers conducted three tests at the Laboratoire National d’Essais (LNE) on three shisha types that include shisha with self-lighting carbon used in small amounts, self-lighting carbon used in large amounts, and natural carbon shisha used in small volumes. The smoke was measured on three parameters that include amount of tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide.

Results of these tests

The results showed that shisha with self-lighting carbon produced 70 liters of smoke that contained 319 milligrams of tar. The self lighting carbon in large amounts produced 266 milligrams of tar and the natural carbon produced 1023 milligrams of tar. In all the three cases, tar produced was very high as per European limits.

The amount of carbon dioxide produced was also reported very high during the tests. Exactly, it was 17 times more than normal cigarette limit for self lighting shisha, 15 times more for self-lighting carbon in large amounts and 52 times more for natural carbon.

In terms of nicotine produced, both the small and large amounts of self-lighting carbon measured one cigarette per shisha. In natural carbon, nicotine produced was equivalent of six cigarettes. This study clearly shows that smoking in whatever form, certainly is bad for health.

Most of the smokers struggle to get rid of this habit, mainly due to the strong nicotine addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Medical advancement however, has come up with some useful drugs such as Champix that can be quite effective in helping smokers to get rid of the habit of smoking easily.
