Britain's oldest dad, 78, didn't use Viagra

At the grand age of 78, Raymond Calvert became the oldest father in Britain earlier this year – and despite his age he has insisted that impotence treatment played no role in the pregnancy.

Calvert said having another son so late, with his wife who is just 25 years old, has made him “the most fortunate man in the world,” The Sun reports. “The birth was planned and I didn’t use Viagra or anything,” he said. Calvert beats the previous record for the oldest father in Britain by two years.

Blessed

Calvert now has six children and nine grandchildren and admits he has been “blessed” by the arrival of his new child.

You could argue that he is also blessed to have reached his late 70s and still have no problem ‘raising the mast’ in the bedroom.

Impotence affects one in two men in the middle to late years of their lives and impotence treatments like Viagra are the best tools they have in overcoming this problem. To highlight that many of their customers are older, Viagra makers Pfizer have used older role models like Pele and Al Gore to promote their drug. Meanwhile 82 year-old Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner has slightly contraversially said that Viagra has “freed me to please women sexually.”

Back in 2008 a report from the West Midlands found that Viagra was responsible for a rise in promiscuous behaviour among the over-50s. Could Viagra really have altered the sexual habits of older men? Another report this year found that men’s craving for sex carries on later into their life in comparison with women. Part of the reason for this is thought to be the libido-enhancing effects of Viagra.
