Ten minutes is the ideal length for sex

The one third of men who suffer from, or have suffered from, premature ejaculation, will be reassured by the latest findings from the Society for Sex Therapy and Research.

The organisation has announced what they believe to be the ideal length of sex: between seven and thirteen minutes. This may come as a surprise to people whose expectations of sex have been warped by the scenes they have become used to on movies and TV shows, the experts said. Yet they insist that it is a much more realistic view of how sex really is.

If couples expect to recreate the all-night love making sessions that are portrayed on films, they are likely to be left very disappointed so “telling it like it is” is important, the experts say. “We hope this study will dispel fantasies and encourage men and women with realistic data,” said Eric Corty, one of the leading researchers from Penn State University.

A common cause of premature ejaculation is low sexual self esteem. Men convince themselves in their minds that they should be ‘sexual stallions’ and last for a long time, to satisfy their partner. The problem with this mindset is that it can put too much pressure on men. The resulting anxiety can cause them to climax too fast.

Premature ejaculation can quickly become a regular and stressful problem. Like impotence, if the problem persists for too long, premature ejaculation can put so much strain on a relationship that it eventually breaks.

Hope has recently been delivered to men in the form of Priligy, a treatment for PE that prolongs ejaculation three-fold. Priligy has recently been licensed in the UK for the first time. It has undergone tests on over 6,000 men, in which it had beneficial effects for PE sufferers.

Remember that there are other routes you can take to overcome PE, aside from drugs. Physcological help can overcome any mental issues causing the problem. Some special anesthetic sprays are also available, which numb the penis, desensitising it during sex.
