A study conducted at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has found that Viagra has the potential to prove effective, in treating patients with single ventricle congenial heart disease.
Single – ventricle heart defects are cardiac malformations which ultimately prevent the heart from functioning properly.
The main component of Viagra, Sildenafil has already been proven to effectively treat pulmanory arterial hypertension. However, recent findings prove that it can also markedly improve the condition of a number of other heart conditions, through cardiac enhancement and increased blood flow.
The study involved 28 subjects (young adults), all of whom had previously undergone surgery known as the Fontan operation. This is responsible for redirecting the blood supply into the pulmanory arteries (bypass). Half of the subjects were given Viagra whilst the others were treated with placebo pills
Stats indicate that patients who took Viagra, experienced an improvement in the condition of their heart, in comparison with those that took the placebo. They were given the medications for six weeks.
The study was headed by Professor J. Goldberg of the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. When asked for his comments, he expressed his opinion that Viagra has the potential to improve the overall quality of life for patients. The findings were announced during the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Florida.
Viagra was discovered over a decade ago, completely by accident. It has since become the leading impotence drug!
