The Atkins Diet was the most popular low-carbohydrate diet in 2004. Dr Robert C. Atkins devised the concept in the 1970’s, but the diet became a household name after Dr Atkins published his book: 'Dr Atkins’ New Diet Revolution'.

Beverly Hills Diet
Los Angeles actress Judy Maxel created the Beverly Hills diet, which became an international hit, despite her lack of credentials. It combines different diet foods, which supposedly results in weight loss of 10 to 15 pounds after 35 days.
Blood Type Diet
The Blood Type diet is based on a theory that suggests the four human blood groups react differently to different food. Peter J D'Adamo M.D published his theory in his book: 'Eat Right for Your Type' and it was adopted by the pubic.
Cabbage Soup Diet
The Cabbage Soup diet asserts that cabbage has fat burning properties that aid weight loss. The concept was supposedly adopted from hospitals, where cabbage soup is often served to patients recovering from surgery.
Fit For Life Diet
'Fit For Life' was published as a book by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond in the early 1980’s. The Fit For Life diet that followed the book was based on eating certain combinations of foods at specific times of the day.
Glycemic Index (GI) Diet
Kylie Minogue is reportedly a fan of the Glycaemic Index (GI) or GI Diet. The index ranks foods based on their effect on blood sugar levels; in effect rewarding food that delivers energy to the body, making you last longer between meals. More about GI Diet
Grapefruit Diet
Supermodels are largely responsible the popularity of the unhealthy Grapefruit diet. It shares the same concept as the cabbage soup diet – asserting that grapefruit also contains fat burning properties.
Hay Diet
The Hay Diet, named after its creator Dr William Hay, is based on the theory that the body can not digest carbohydrates and proteins simultaneously. It was popular in Dr Hay’s day, back in the early 1900’s.
Hollywood Diet
The Hollywood diet is essentially a 'miracle juice' which is drunk exclusively instead of meals for a 48 hour period. The 'miracle juice' is made from plant extracts that are supposed to assist with weight loss.
Kelloggs Special K Kickstart Diet
The Kellogg Company has customised a diet in order to promote their Special K brand of cereal. Special K Kickstart dieters are encouraged to eat lots of fruit and vegetables between meals and of course, eat Special K for breakfast. |
