Probably you have not heard about vardenafil but you might have surely heard about Levitra. Vardenafil is the active ingredient of Levitra. As Levitra is the brand name, you might be aware of it but not its ingredient.
Vardenafil (INN) belongs to a class of drug called PDE5 inhibitor and is used in the treatment of
erectile dysfunction. It can assist men with erectile disorders like difficulty in achieving and maintaining an erection during sexual activity. If you think that vardenafil will automatically help you to achieve and maintain an erection, you are wrong. Vardenafil does not directly cause an erection, but it alters the body’s response to sexual stimulation by enhancing the effect a chemical called nitric oxide released on sexual stimulation. Nitric oxide causes relaxation of the muscles in the penis, which allows for better blood flow to the penile area. In this way, vardenafil works to give you an erection.
One thing that you have to remember when you take vardenafil is that it will not give you an erection on its own. You need sexual stimulation of some form when you take vardenafil.
Clinical Trials of Vardenafil
If a drug is not clinically tested, it will be a gamble to take it. However, with
Levitra (vardenafil) you can be sure of its effects since it has passed through rigorous clinical trials.

Vardenafil is a novel selective phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor and is tested in several large-scale trials. In one trial, 601 men with mild to severe erectile dysfunction (ED) joined this multi-centre, randomized, double blind, and placebo-controlled trial that lasted for 12 weeks. Patients were divided in two groups and the first group was given vardenafil while the second one was on placebo.
According to International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), the efficacy of vardenafil pills was tested on two major domains – 1) hard penis for successful vaginal penetration and 2) maintenance of erection all the way through. Vardenafil showed an average success rate of 80%. The success rate of vardenafil in the first domain (vaginal penetration) was 71% to 75% whereas in the second domain, it was 80% with radical improvement in erections. If you are wondering what happened to people placed on placebo in the second group; the success rate of placebo was only 30%.
One more important thing noticed in clinical trials was that vardenafil did not cause many side effects. Some of the side effects of vardenafil were mild to moderate in nature and did not affect many men. Some of the side effects of vardenafil were headache (7-15%), flushing (10-11%) and up to 7% for dyspepsia or rhinitis.
Before you take Vardenafil
Looking at the successful results of vardenafil in clinical trials, you might want to
buy Levitra (vardenafil). However, you cannot buy it without prescription. There are certain people for whom vardenafil is contraindicated. This may be due to some existing condition, or due to some medications that you take.
Do not take vardenafil if you:
- take any medicines called ‘nitrates’
- use recreational drugs called ‘poppers’ like amyl nitrate and butyl nitrate
- have been told by your healthcare professional not to have sexual activity because of some health problems such as liver, kidney, and blood pressure problems
Vardenafil can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level if it is taken with certain other pills mentioned above. A sudden drop in your blood pressure could cause you to become dizzy, faint, or have a heart attack or stroke. Vardenafil should only be taken once a day. Do not increase or decrease the
dosage of vardenafil without consulting a doctor. Also do not take vardenafil with high-fat meals and alcohol, this may reduce the effect of vardenafil in your body.
