What are Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg)?
Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) help reduce the volume of acid produced in the stomach. The capsules contain the active ingredient lansoprazole which is classified as a proton pump inhibitor, meaning it helps to reduce the volume of acid in the stomach.
This makes them an effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions. However, they are most often used to treat the symptoms of persistent heartburn, indigestion, NSAID-associated duodenal or gastric ulcers, and for the process of H pylori eradication.
Your doctor may also prescribe them for: gastro-oesophageal reflux disease; reflux oesophagitis; Zollinger-Ellison syndrome; and, gastrin-secreting tumours.
To remove H pylori bacteria, Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) are used alongside antibiotics, creating an ideal environment for the latter to take effect.
Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) are available on prescription only, which can be obtained online.
How do Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) work?
As a proton pump inhibitor, the active ingredient in Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) effectively blocks the cells in your stomach lining that produce stomach acid (known as 'proton pumps').
This enables Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) to alleviate symptoms associated with heartburn and indigestion immediately, or over the course of a few days. These symptoms typically include nausea and a burning sensation in your oesophagus.
Your doctor may also prescribe a long-term course of Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) to prevent or treat certain conditions (such as peptic ulcers), which could last for several weeks or longer.
Reducing the amount of stomach acid you produce can help provide short-term relief from heartburn and indigestion by minimising acid reflux (the process by which stomach acid enters your oesophagus).
When taken over a longer period, this function can also provide an appropriate environment for tissue damaged by acid reflux to repair itself, helping to prevent digestive issues from returning.
Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) are a prescription-only medicine. You cannot purchase them over the counter. Instead, your doctor will prescribe them to you once a relevant diagnosis has been made.
How to use Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg)
Your doctor will decide on the most suitable treatment programme based on your diagnosis. This will determine what dosage you are prescribed, and how regularly you are advised to take this medication.
In most cases, your doctor is likely to prescribe one capsule per day to be taken in the morning for the duration of treatment.
However, if you have been prescribed Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) to achieve H pylori eradication, they are more likely to recommend you take two tablets per day. This course of treatment will generally only last for 1 week.
Treatment can also be prescribed for a few months in the event of a duodenal or stomach ulcer. It could even be recommended on a long-term basis when symptom management or recurrence prevention are the primary goals.

What are the precautions/interactions of Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg)?
The active ingredient is known to react with a wide range of other medication types. Always consult your doctor about other medications you may be taking as this may impact the prescription and treatment method you are allocated.
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to the active ingredient, or any of its other ingredients.
This medication is not considered appropriate for people with phenylketonuria, as the capsules could contain aspartame.
You should exercise caution when taking Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) if you have liver problems, osteoporosis or a vitamin B12 deficiency. Inform your doctor, as they may recommend a reduced dosage or additional monitoring.
Antacids, sucralfate and herbal remedies such as St John's wort and ginkgo biloba can affect how Lansoprazole is absorbed and moves through the bloodstream. These products should therefore not be taken during treatment.
Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) can also reduce absorption of other medications making them less effective, including: anti-HIV drugs (rilpivirine and atazanavir); dabrafenib; erlotinib; bosutinib; itraconazole; lapatinib; and, pazopanib.
Taking fluvoxamine (an antidepressant) could increase your risk of side effects as it may cause additional amounts of the active ingredient to enter your bloodstream. Lansoprazole could also have the same effect on other medications, such as saquinavir, methotrexate, digoxin and tacrolimus.
Your doctor may choose to adapt your treatment programme if you are already taking any of these medications.
Lansoprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules (15mg) can reduce your magnesium levels, resulting in additional side effects. This risk increases if you are taking any other medication that also causes magnesium levels to decline, including diuretics (e.g. furosemide or bendroflumethiazide), tacrolimus and digoxin.
Your doctor may choose to give you a blood test before commencing treatment and on a regular basis throughout your treatment programme in this eventuality.
This medicine is generally not considered suitable for use by children or pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by your doctor.
