What is Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer?
Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer (often sold under the brand name 'Curanail' in the UK), is used to treat mild fungal nail infections that affect the sides and tips of up to two toenails or fingernails.
The nail lacquer contains the active ingredient amorolfine. This is an antifungal medicine that kills yeasts and fungi.
How does Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer work?
Fungal nail infections are notoriously difficult to treat because our toenails and fingernails are hard to penetrate; they also take a long time to grow.
Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer contains 50mg of amorolfine per 1ml of lacquer. When applied to the nails, the lacquer stays on for a week, penetrating the nail to fight infection. Amorolfine is an anti-fungal medicine that kills fungi and yeast.
It does so by causing holes in the membranes of fungal cells. This allows constituents essential for their survival to leak out, killing the fungi and clearing the infection.
Treatment can take up to 6 months for fingernails and 9-12 months for toenails, although the duration of the treatment will depend on the severity of the infection.
Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer is available to purchase over the counter, without prescription from your doctor.
If symptoms persist, you should seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
