How do Cetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets and Solution work?

Histamine is a substance produced naturally by our bodies in reaction to allergens such as pet fur or pollen. When histamine is produced, it acts on histamine receptors in the body to cause a chain reaction. This results in allergic symptoms. For example, in an allergic reaction such as hay fever, histamine can lead to the airways, eyes or nose becoming inflamed. This causes a runny, itchy or blocked nose, sneezing and watery, itchy eyes. If you experience an allergic skin reaction, histamine can cause symptoms such as itching, rash and skin inflammation.
Cetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets and Solution work by blocking histamine receptors. This stops the chain reaction that causes allergic symptoms from taking place.
Cetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets and Solution can be taken on the day you have experienced allergic symptoms, for example after exposure to pollen or pet fur. Alternatively, you can take the tablets or solution throughout the hay fever season or if you know you are going to be exposed to an allergen, to prevent symptoms from occurring.
