Nick Clegg given a giant Viagra pill

Published : Thursday September 16, 2010 | Posted in : News

A giant blue Viagra pill was left on the doorstep of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg in the early hours of this morning.

The huge papier-mâché version of the famous impotence treatment was left by climate change protesters, who wrote on the tablet that they wanted the leader to 'get hard on climate change'.

An online video of the stunt shows seven members of the Climate Rush organisation stepping on Mr Clegg's doorstep around 6.30am this morning, depositing the fake Viagra pill, and ringing the door bell. Nick Clegg's wife Miriam answered to tell the protestors that the leader was away in Scotland. Members of the group were later questioned by police about the incident . A policeman can be seen telling them on the video: "it's not really the kind of thing you want to be dealing with, a massive blue Viagra pill on your door step, is it?"

'Don't be impotent'

The campaigners wore t-shirts with the slogan 'don't be impotent' on the front and 'be important,' on the back. Meanwhile the 4ft long pill was emblazoned with the slogans 'CLIMATE VIAGRA' and 'GET HARD ON CLIMATE CHANGE'.

Petition

Attached to the pill was a petition for the government to stop being impotent about global warming. Signatories included Sue Perkins (television presenter) and Josie Long (comedian). "We hoped this government would fulfil its promise to be 'the greenest government ever'," protestor Deborah Grayson said. "But the withdrawal of support for a 'Green Investment Bank'; the rumours that government will not commit to developing carbon capture and storage technology; and the cutting of key policy bodies, such as the Sustainable Development Commission tell the opposite story."
