A trailer has been released for Love And Other Drugs, a film about Viagra.

Love and Other Drugs stars Jake Gyllenhall as an employee at Pfizer, the medical firm that owns Viagra. Gyllenhall’s character is a charming-yet-cocky drug salesman, who finds himself falling for a free spirited woman, played by Anne Hathaway.

The film marks the first time Viagra and impotence have been portrayed in a Hollywood blockbuster. Its script is based on a book by Jamie Reidy called Hard Sell: The Evolution Of Viagra.

Reidy worked as a representative for Pfizer between 1995 and 2000. During this period, Viagra was released and its popularity soon soared. Reidy then left Pfizer for another drug firm, Eli Lilly. Upon the publication of his memoir, Reidy was promptly fired by Lilly, but now makes a living as an author and screen writer.

Revelations

Reidy’s book shows him to be sceptical about the industry he is in. But in an interview with Natural News website, the author revealed that he is not so cynical about Viagra itself. “It’s good stuff!” he said. “People are looking to improve their sexual experience, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”

Reidy says friends used to ask him for free Viagra, to use for recreational purposes. But the author recalls: “I just annoyed my friends to no end, because I wouldn't give out Viagra samples. I thought, ‘You know what, with my luck, one of you guys is going to drop dead of a heart attack, and not only am I going to jail, I'm going to have to explain to your mom why you died. I just don't want to have that conversation.”

Viagra makes billions of pounds each year for Pfizer. Cialis and Levitra, the other two most popular impotence treatments, also make substantial profits for their respective manufacturers. An estimated 1 in 2 men aged over 40 is impotent. The formulation of erectile dysfunction treatments has allowed many older men to enjoy active love lives once again.

Love And Other Drugs will arrive in cinemas in December.
