Do Coldplay fans 'play it cold' on the first date?

A study by a music-based dating website has discovered that fans of Coldplay are the least likely to have sex on a first date.

People who have signed up to the dating site Tastebuds.fm, which matches couples according to similar music tastes, were asked, on a first date how far they'd go with the person they've only just met. They chose between "I'd only meet up for a chat", "perhaps a kiss" and "I"d go all the way if the mood was right".

Fans of Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Kings of Leon were the ones who also said they'd be less inclined to hop into bed with a stranger.

However, Nirvana fans admitted to being the most amorous, followed by fans of Metallica, Linkin Park, Kanye West and Gorrillaz.

What this study doesn't reveal is the link between sex with strangers and STIs, but it's a well known fact that if you bed multiple partners and don't practise safe sex, you leave yourself vulnerable to catching anything from genital herpes - which can't be cured - to chlamydia and lesser known bacterial infections like ureaplasma urealyticum..

If you prefer to listen to Nirvana over Coldplay, it may be time for you to take an STI test. That's not to say that all Nirvana fans will jump into bed with someone they've just met, or that you will catch an STI if you have sex with a stranger, but there is a well proven correlation between the two factors and the only way to guarantee you haven't picked anything up is to test for infections.

Whether you get down to the love songs of Coldplay or the grunge anthems of Nirvana, failing to use a condom when you have sex with someone means you are vulnerable to spreading or contracting an infection that you or your partner not even realise you have.

It doesn't matter if you share the same favourite song, you've been to the same gigs or you share the same idols; a similar music taste is no indicator of sexual health. Neither is being a Coldplay fan; just because you're less likely to have sex with a stranger doesn't mean you always practise safe sex.
