More information about Oxybutynin
Oxybutynin is prescribed for the treatment of urinary incontinence.
By targeting the muscles of the bladder, and relaxing them, Oxybutynin lessens the spasms and contractions that cause the symptoms of urinary incontinence.
With the help of this medication, sufferers of incontinence can go about their daily routine without fear of discomfort or embarrassment. It is convenient to take, prescribed in pill-form, and can be used (with a doctor’s supervision) safely long-term.
Oxybutynin contains the active ingredient oxybutynin hydrochloride. It works to relax the muscles of the bladder and prevent sudden muscle contractions (spasms).
This reduces, and in many cases, eliminates symptoms of urinary incontinence, including frequent urination, wetting accidents and increased night-time urination.
Always follow the instructions of your doctor as well as what is detailed in the patient leaflet.
This medication is available in the following dosages - 2.5mg, 5mg (immediate-release), 5mg (modified release as Lyrinel XL), and 10mg (modified release, as Lyrinel XL).
The recommended starting dose is 5mg (immediate-release), to be taken 2-3 times daily. If necessary, this can be increased to 4 times daily.
Alternatively, 5mg (modified release) can be taken once daily, increased by steps of 5mg weekly, until a maximum dose of 20mg daily has been reached.
For the elderly, 2.5mg doses should be taken twice daily. If necessary, this can be increased to 5mg twice daily.
If you forget to take a tablet, take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to your next dose.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. If you do take a double dose, seek immediate medical attention.
You should swallow tablets whole, with a glass of water.
You should not break or split tablets.
You should visit your doctor for regular checkups while taking this medication.
All prescription medications pose a slight risk of side effects. The following are the most common associated with Oxybutynin (for a complete list, please consult the patient leaflet):
If you find you experience any of the above, you should stop treatment and inform your doctor. They may be able to recommend an alternative treatment.
If you believe you are suffering an allergic reaction, you should stop treatment and seek immediate medical attention.
If you suffer from any of the following, it may be too risky for you to use Oxybutynin. In this case, you should consult your doctor and they will be able to propose alternative treatments.
This medicine can also affect the performance of certain skilled activities. Before you drive, or operate any machinery, please consider how your body reacts to Oxybutin.
Oxybutin can also induce drowsiness. Alcohol can exacerbate this side effect.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to conceive, you should consult your doctor before starting this treatment.
Before you can order Oxybutynin online, you need to complete an online consultation. This is completely confidential, and is so our doctors can determine whether the medication is safe for your use. If they approve it, we will dispatch your order with next-day delivery.
