Oestrogel is a type of HRT gel manufactured by Besins Healthcare. It helps to improve menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness by helping to balance your hormone levels.
Oestrogel contains estradiol, which is a form of the reproductive hormone oestrogen. During menopause, oestrogen levels fall, which is what causes symptoms. Oestrogel therefore works by restoring your oestrogen levels, reducing these symptoms.
As well as reducing menopause symptoms, Oestrogel has several unique benefits:
No. If you still have a womb, you’ll also need a progestogen to protect the womb lining while using Oestrogel. This is to help prevent the womb lining from thickening, which can increase the risk of womb cancer.
Each pump of Oestrogel contains 750 mcg of estradiol. The usual dose is 2 pumps (1.5 mg of estradiol) once daily. You can use up to 4 pumps daily if needed. If you have a womb, you must take cyclical progestogen alongside oestrogel to protect the womb lining.
Apply Oestrogel once daily, either in the morning or evening. You should apply it at the same time each day.
If you forget to use Oestrogel and it is more than 12 hours until your next dose, apply the gel as soon as you remember and apply the next dose at the regular time. If it is less than 12 hours until your next dose, skip the missed dose and use Oestrogel at the usual time.
You will know your Oestrogel pump is nearly empty when the plunger does not return to its original position after you have pushed it down. When this happens, do not use the pump any longer. Start using a new one.
Oestrogel is safe for most women to use to relieve menopause symptoms.

Oestrogel is safe, provided you get a prescription from a licensed healthcare professional. It was approved for use in the UK in November 1997, and since then has been a trusted product for thousands who rely on it for effective HRT treatment.
However, as with all HRT medicines, it can pose some risk. You should take special care if you have a condition that makes you more likely to get a blood clot. Speak with your doctor if you’re unsure about the safety of treatment with Oestrogel.
