Utrogestan capsules are a type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) manufactured by Cyndea. They are designed to help prevent womb cancer for those on oestrogen HRT. It can be used if you are still having periods (sequential HRT) or if your periods have stopped (continuous HRT). It contains progesterone, and it must be taken with oestrogen.
During menopause, your body produces fewer reproductive hormones like progesterone and oestrogen, which is what causes menopause symptoms. Utrogestan contains progesterone, which supplements your natural progesterone levels and improves these symptoms.
There are several benefits of using Utrogestan. As well as significantly reducing the severity of menopause symptoms, it also helps to lower the risk of womb cancer. This is because taking progesterone with oestrogen causes the womb lining to shed each month. Taking oestrogen on its own causes this lining to build up, which can increase the risk of womb cancer.
Utrogestan is available as 100 mg capsules. The dose you take depends on your HRT regime. You should be on either a sequential regime (if you still get your periods) or a continuous regime (if your periods have stopped).
You will likely have a bleed after taking your cycle of progesterone.
You must take Utrogestan with oestrogen daily to help relieve menopause symptoms. Always follow the advice from your doctor or specialist.
Instructions for taking Utrogestan:
If you forget to take it, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Utrogestan is suitable for women to relieve menopause symptoms with oestrogen. It is only suitable for women who have a womb.
Do not take Utrogestan if you:

Utrogestan is safe, provided you get a prescription from a licensed healthcare professional. It was approved for use in the UK in January 2003, and since then has been a trusted product for thousands who rely on it for effective HRT treatment.
However, as with all HRT medicines, it can pose some risk. You should take special care if you have a condition that makes you more likely to get a blood clot. Speak with your doctor if you’re unsure about the safety of treatment with Utrogestan.
