More information about Diprosalic Scalp Application
Diprosalic Scalp Application is a topical corticosteroid treatment that is designed for use on your scalp.
An effective treatment for various skin conditions, Diprosalic Scalp Application is commonly prescribed for psoriasis and eczema (dermatitis).
This treatment is classed as a potent corticosteroid, which means it is more powerful than other scalp treatments. It achieves this with the help of a second ingredient, salicylic acid, which works to soften the affected skin so that the steroid can better penetrate and treat the inflamed area.
If you suffer from psoriasis or eczema on areas of your body other than your scalp, there are other potent treatments that might be better for you. For example, Elocon or Dermovate.
Diprosalic Scalp Application contains two active ingredients. The first is an artificial version of the hormone cortisol, betamethasone dipropionate. The second is an acid, salicylic acid. These two substances work together to reduce inflammation.
Your body produces cortisol naturally. Its job is to calm your immune system. This is very effective for eczema and psoriasis, as these conditions are caused by an overactive immune response. As a corticosteroid, betamethasone mirrors the effect of cortisol, alleviating symptoms like itchy skin, pain and redness.
Salicylic acid is especially effective if you have thick plaques on your scalp. It softens the plaques so that the betamethasone is more easily absorbed by lower layers of the skin, which are often the greatest source of irritation.
Remember to always follow the advice of your doctor or dermatologist when using any new skin treatment.
Diprosalic Scalp Application comes in bottles of 30ml or 100ml.
The following is only a summary - more information is contained in the patient information leaflet (PIL), which is included with your order.
Summary:
If you forget a dose, do not apply a double dose to make up for it - this will only increase the chance of side effects occurring. Instead, apply the next dose as normal.
You should use this treatment for two weeks. At this point, you should visit your doctor for a consultation. Depending on how you have responded to the scalp application, they may extend the course or ask you to stop using it.
You should be aware that this medication, along with all others, can cause side effects. Most people tolerate it well, however, if you experience any distressing reactions, you should stop treatment and contact a doctor.
You should also stop treatment if you have an allergic reaction. For example, you get an increase in skin rashes or have swelling or difficulty breathing.
It is unlikely that you will experience any side effects - however, reported reactions include:
HealthExpress currently does not prescribe this medication for children. Children suffer different side effects, such as hormone changes. You should speak with your doctor for further information about the use of this scalp application on children.
*As this side effect is very similar to the symptoms of the condition, you should stop applying the medication if there is no improvement after 7 days.
**This reaction is more common with overuse.
Not all medications are suitable for all people. Some people may have conditions that put them at increased risk, others may be taking treatments that interact poorly with the new medication.
If any of the following apply to you, you should ask your doctor for different treatments:
Do not smoke or go near naked flames after applying this treatment - it is flammable.
After using the medication, do not apply any bandages or wear tight clothing.
You should speak with a healthcare professional before using this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Do not exceed the recommended dosage set out by the doctor or abuse the treatment. Both of these will lead to side effects and further complications.
